Privacy, plainly
This page covers two things: this website, and the Pomo app. The app's full legal policy is at chia.ro/privacy; where the two differ, that one governs.
This website
- Google Analytics, with your consent where the law asks for it. The site uses Google Analytics 4 to see which pages get read and which store buttons get tapped. In the EU, the rest of the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, nothing is loaded and nothing is sent to Google until you press Accept on the banner. Elsewhere it is on by default, and you can turn it off (below).
- What Google Analytics collects: the pages you view; the site that sent you; your device type, browser, language and screen size; an approximate location (country and city) that Google works out from your IP address, which GA4 doesn't store; and four events of ours: a tap on a store button (which store, and which part of the site), the web timer starting or finishing a phase (focus or break, and its length in minutes), and
/getsending a phone to a store (which store). Page addresses are sent without their query strings, so the timer settings in a link never reach Google. It sets two first-party cookies,_gaand_ga_VXF5D83JGV, that let it tell a returning browser from a new one; they last up to two years. - What it doesn't: nothing you type, no names or email addresses, no advertising. Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off, and the site has no ads and no advertising tags. How Google itself handles the data is in Google's explanation for sites that use its services.
- Turning it off: , also at the foot of every page, lets you Accept or Reject at any time; Reject stops it in this browser and deletes its cookies. Google's opt-out browser add-on turns Google Analytics off on every site, and blocking cookies for this site works too.
- No ads, and nothing else from another company. Apart from Google Analytics, nothing is loaded from another company's servers: the fonts, sounds and images are all served from this site.
- The web timer keeps its state in your browser. Your timer settings and the session in progress are saved in your browser's local storage on this device, so a reload doesn't lose them. They never leave the device. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.
- Notifications are opt-in. The timer only asks for permission when you press "Notify me when a session ends", and only shows a notification when a phase ends.
- The site is hosted on Firebase Hosting (Google). Like any web server, it receives your IP address and browser details in order to deliver the pages.
- Store links carry a campaign tag. The App Store and Google Play links name the part of this site you clicked from (for example
web-guide), so Apple and Google can report to us how many installs came from each part of the site, in aggregate. The tag says nothing about you.
The Pomo app
What stays on your phone
Your sessions (when each one started and ended, how long you held it, whether you finished) and your labels live in a database on the phone. So do your settings. Pomo has no server that stores or syncs them, and you never need an account to time, label or review your sessions. Your phone's own iCloud or Google backup includes the app's data if you have backups switched on.
What leaves your phone
- Anonymous usage counts through Firebase Analytics (Google): events such as a focus starting or finishing, with coarse details like the phase, the face you use, or a length rounded into a bucket such as "15 to 25 minutes". Label text is never sent.
- Crash reports through Firebase Crashlytics (Google), so we can fix what breaks.
- Purchase status through RevenueCat, if you subscribe to Pro, so the app knows Pro is active. Apple or Google handles the payment itself.
The app doesn't read your device's advertising ID on either platform and doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Only if you turn them on
- Calendar sync (Pro) adds finished focus sessions to a calendar you pick. If that calendar syncs to iCloud, Google or another provider, the events go there, as with anything else you put in that calendar.
- The feedback board in Settings lets you suggest and vote on features. Reading it needs nothing; posting or voting asks you to sign in with Google, Apple or an emailed link, and what you post is stored by us on Firebase.
